For getting high-quality scanning, we use flatbed scanners. Depending on the type of scanners, either one side or both sides of the A4 to A3 pages can be scanned simultaneously in different resolutions starting from 100-600 dpi (Dots Per Inch). The file size will be small in lower dpi scanning and vice versa. For good quality scanning, 300 dpi is used. By using an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) attached to heavy-duty printers, single side or double-side page scanning is possible for multiple numbers of pages automatically.
Majority of flatbed scanners typically scan in PDF (Portable Document Format). While scanning a document in PDF format, if you want to copy and paste the text, you need to select OCR (Optical Character Recognition) or the searchable option. The advantage of PDF files is that you can scan documents with images and store single or multiple files depending on the memory of the scanner.
If you want to scan a photograph, normally we use JPEG format as it can store millions of colours at the same time, file size will be reasonably low. It’s a standard image format for containing lossy and compressed image data. That is why most camera takes photographs and store them in JPEG format (Joint Photographic Experts Group). The drawback is that the quality of the image declines steps by step upon editing in an image editing software.
The next image scanning format is TIFF (Tagged Image File Format). By using TIFF mode we can scan photographs or images of the maximum quality. Normally used by professional designers. The drawback is that the file size will be very high so we cannot use TIFF files on the website it takes a long time to load.
